I hope you'll forgive me using the phrase "Establishing shot" to describe this episode, but it sets the scene perfectly, with juuuuust enough edge to leave me feeling unsettled but I have absolutely no indication of what to expect. Excited for the rest!
This is well-written and intriguing. I especially liked the phrases: "A river-rock fireplace belched a thin trickle of smoke into the clear, sweet air"--belching the smoke is a great image; also "a flurry of fabric." I laughed at "full of meditation and flower arranging and whatever the hell else New Age people did to get their rocks off."
I feel a wonderful shiver of dread, the perfect thing to snuggle in with as the weather turns frosty here and the wind throws rain at the windows. Can’t wait for more!

Is it bad that I really want to go on a writing retreat now?
SAME
Maybe it’s because it was also in the cover photo, but the moth has me a bit unsettled. This is such an atmospheric start!
I had a similar thought when the moth showed up. It's on the cover, so it must be important!
Ok now, I feel like I could cut the tension in my anticipation with a knife!
On the one hand I love the idea of a writing retreat in a small cabin like that: on the other... the moth unsettles me. It's not a good sign.
Making me imagine having a story of mine turned into a bad movie is almost more frightening than Seattle traffic 😭
Can't wait for the continuation!
Anticipation. Of what? We can't know. Well done!
