Welcome back to Talebones Tuesday!
This weekly(ish) digest is the way I communicate with my readers to let them know what’s been going on around the Talebones landscape, along with any housekeeping to be aware of.
Happy October, my friends! This is just a quick round-up today, but I wanted to highlight some new fiction from the past few weeks, a fun new feature that I’ve been playing with, and ask you to hold me accountable to two exciting goals.
Read on for more…

Round-Up!
In case you missed it…
At the Foot of the God-Stairs - in this short fiction, college student Maggie’s hike in the wild woods around Mt. Si turns sinister and surreal when she’s pursued by a shadowy force.
The Fair Folk (Part One) - in this Gothic two-parter set in Ferris Island’s past, Dr. Kenneth Strand’s jealousy of his younger brother leads him into a dark supernatural bargain. But who has he really dealt with? And can they be trusted? (The second part is coming soon, so catch up today if you haven’t already!)
Coffee Chat Replay - livestreaming is coming to Substack! While the feature is still in limited beta, I’ve been given the honor of having access to it, and a few weeks ago I made my first attempt with this quick and casual conversation. In this replay I discuss the various uses for livestreaming here on the platform—especially for fiction writers—and also do a desk tour, talk about Talebones updates, and other casual chit-chat. Enjoy!
The Talebones Council - we recently overhauled our paid subscription model here at Talebones with revamped perks and clearer tiers! If you’re curious to learn more, check out this past issue of Talebones Tuesday.
TALESTACK NEWS is a twice-monthly bulletin of Substack fiction news where I collate as many announcements, projects, submissions opportunities, community endeavors, and generally cool things as I can gather. Check out the most recent issue here! (And if you’re a writer on the platform, check out the submission guidelines and email your news to talestack.editor@gmail.com by October 6th to be included in the next issue!)
Thank you for reading!
All kinds of fun things are brewing here at Talebones HQ…
This week, my big goal is to have The Orchard Hounds—an anthology of favorite short fiction from the Ferris Island tales—available as an ebook! I’m so close to the finish line I can almost taste it, and I appreciate your patience as I get this thing edited and ready for consumption.
Second, probably next week after the ebook is off my plate, I’m excited to launch our Fall/Winter merch collection!
Two big, big goals, but both super exciting. And then, beyond that, the siren’s song of a paperback edition… gulp!
I love October, and I love the spooky season, and I’m excited to bring you all the fun, the frights, and the fiction shenanigans I can, this year.
Thank you as always for being the best readership on Substack! (Proven! Guaranteed!)
Have a lovely week, friends!
Your grateful storyteller,
Loving the diversification you've got going here, all good for us in Talebones land!
Good luck with your projects, Sally! 💪
