For S.E. Reid’s “The Book”:
This is a sweet and slow moving tale of a black family on vacation during the post World War 2 years where travel without a Green Book of places accepting to black travelers was not a trip to be taken lightly. This is nonetheless a sweet story of suspense like honey and butter spreading on a slice of warm toast. I had to force myself to slow my normal speed reading and take the time to savor the author’s prose. If I’d skimmed through I would have given it a B, but this is a A Grade gem like Brahm’s baroque music given the time and freedom to relax.
