Not going to say I told you so, but I always had my doubts about Flora.

Late 1970s is vintage? Really? I need to go lie down now...

😆 Yeah…I’m regularly shocked by what’s now considered vintage and really wish I’d kept more stuff over years!

Bloody hell.

Why does Caroline always do something dumb after they have a disagreement?

It's going to be a looooong week while we wait for the next installment!

Terrific nail-biter of a chapter!

I think it's because her coping strategy is doing things and she spends too much energy on not being upset to be careful with whatever her distraction is. We should be glad she isn't a superhero side character with those tendencies.

I think that sums it up for me too.

Bloody hell.

Indeed! It’s like a form of passive aggressive punishment - admittedly it’s predominantly self sabotage, but after all he’s been through it’s a tad unkind to the captain. Easy to see when it’s not happening to yourself of course. So very realistic unfortunately…I dream that one day basic mental health and psychology will be a part of the educational curriculum. But also know that it’s an unrealistic fantasy. We don’t even value practical skills let alone creative ones so why would society start to value psychological health? Le Sigh!

I’m so excited that this came out during the kids’ nap so I could read it right away, but ohmygoodness I have to wait a week for the next one?? 🫣

This was such a well done, tense, heartrending episode.

An excellent reminder to those of us becoming frustrated by Caroline. She’s behaving like most of us do when we’re hurting.

God DAMN it, Caroline. (*channeling her voice of reason*) The only upside is that at least they aren’t both captured.

An excellent point. Thank you!

Betrayal and stupidity. Miss Phelan is starting to get on my nerves. Revile is worth better. Oh, I almost forgot--it's only a story. And a damn good one. Can't wait for next Friday.

I love that Carolina finally talked to Reyville about the visions and showed the scars. Beautiful imagery. I just have a hard time wrapping my brain around a grocery store overtaking an abandoned sanatorium. Maybe it's because I think of sanatorium as multilevel, sprawling hospitals?

OH NO!!! This is so painfully good! I am on pins and needles over here!

It occurs to me that Caroline was expected, even invited in a manner of speaking! Not a locked door at any point between the outside entrance in the 'cemetery' and the room where Flora was waiting and ready. This being a clandestine entry point to a covert mad scientist lab...should have been a proverbial Ft. Knox! With Caroline so well known as a link to the supernatural elements of the island, she is an important specimen for Flora. And she is definitely bait to snatch Reyville, also of considerable interest for obvious reasons! And with Caroline missing, will Reyville be thinking clearly while trying to track her down? Me thinks not! We need an unexpected hero to emerge from obscurity to get our poor protagonists out of this mess, eh?

“But the pain of his dismissal, the pain of his wounding, was now fully bone, unyielding” That idea of how pain calcifies inside us is splendid. So, so true.
