Oh that is sweet S.E., with just a perfect touch of the hair rising, feeling the boat passing over that hole! Given that natural narrative coming from Hank, I think this one really begs for an audio reading!
Boy, this stuff beats the crap out of the incoherent college think pieces clogging the feed. Nice to see someone talking about reality, and telling a story. I liked the start. I would've liked to see you renew it about a 1/3 way down and move onto another action. But a pleasure regardless. Keep'em coming.
I loved the story, and the recipe for cooking and serving trout on toast had me salivating. Actually, my wife and I love trout. There is a wonderful 'folksy' feeling to the story, almost like men gathered around the ole cracker barrel, but there is also more than a tone of warming about the strange disappearances. I'll be around for more of your writing, S.E.
I love Hank so much!! Also, as someone who’s afraid of deep water and mysterious water-dwelling creatures, the hole in Lake Damascus gives me chills. 🫣
I could buy Hank a coffee and listen to him for hours. Now I want to go fishing with him too.
And investigate that lake!
This is really funny -- the nonstop talk. Bet that guy's eyes were glazing over. Some interesting geographical information while you were at it.

Nice work
Fantastic stream-of-consciousness characterization!
LOREMASTER HANK RIDES AGAIN!
Was the hole in lake damascus always a feature of Ferris Island lore??? S p o o k y addition to the geography…
So intriguing. And I loved the Discovery Pass touch.
Great piece! Thanks

Oooooof do NOT go fishing in that hole!!!
I should read the rest of the Ferris island, to get more context. As always, love your writing

Me too! I was reading thinking 'there is no way i'll be swimming in that lake!' Not even paddling if I'm honest hahaha
I adore hearing from Hank, and I would love to get him in a booth at Seavend General Store, keep his coffee topped up and just let him talk for hours.
