[Gulps] You mean, these are all actual places?? I though Index was a wonderful fictional name for a town. Just found them all on the old computerization device. I also spent a couple months in Central/Western WA but can't remember any of these towns or Skagit. Olympia still calls...
I love the suspense! I sometimes wonder if I need to “hold back” more from the reader—you have found that sweet-spot for sure! Looking forward to the next part!
I love the opposing images and promise of this piece. You must really love forests, all of yours, all your wildish-nature is presented as mysterious, waiting, nearly human. Love it! Can't wait to see what comes next!
For your first attempt at soft sci-fi, you're off to a good start. It's got just sci-fi to be interesting, mixed with suspense. I can't wait to read the second part.
I clicked into this after seeing your announcement of chapter six and all I can say is I'm instantly hooked. You've set up some interesting characters and a lot of questions that I'm dying to have answered. Loving all of this. Lucky for me, there are five more chapters to binge. :-) Good stuff, S.E.!
I was in a Flash Fiction group a few years ago, where often our prompts were designed to get you into a different genre. Or a mashup of two. Always good to change up occasionally.
Oooh! This is so intriguing! The backwoods-dystopia combination a vibe I can get behind!
Backwoods-dystopia: that is a perfect description for this vibe and I like it!
I'm drawn into this world.
And I'm not from the area, but I know it.
My stepfather was from Sultan. Startup, actually. Skagit County, I believe. I can picture the milieu and its topography.
I can smell it as well. I will pounce as soon as Episode 2 appears in my email.

I love the feel of this story and can't wait for more!
Gimme more of this believable everyday sci-fi! Love this!
(WHY DOESN’T THE US ADOPT ISO DATE FORMATS EVEN IN THE FUTURE!!?? 😭)
Great vibe and intrigue established immediately. Love the juxtaposition of future/mysterious tech with the aging rural/mountain area.
I love the suspense! I sometimes wonder if I need to “hold back” more from the reader—you have found that sweet-spot for sure! Looking forward to the next part!
Oooh, can’t wait to read what happens next. I’m already invested and eager to learn more about, well, everything.

Love the premise! (My hubby’s hobby is 3D printing at home, so…😅). Thank you!🩶
Instantly pulled in! Can’t wait to read what’s next

Outside your comfort zone, yeah, right.

OMG I'm desperate to find out what is going to come out of that machine! I think I might know... but I am desperate to confirm it!
