Dear Reader…
Welcome back to The Weekly, and Happy October!
The spooky season has begun! Are we ready to see what lies in store for us on the Good Ship Talebones?

Round-Up!
In Case You Missed It…
The Right Thing - In this short story, a delivery driver trying to put her life back together is given an unusual assignment and a set of firm rules. But can she follow the rules and still do the right thing?
In Episode Four of our serial novella Goldgreen, Penelope’s snooping around the production had unintended consequences and dug her deeper into the show’s mystery…
I don’t normally link my two newsletters, but in case you’re interested: over at my nonfiction newsletter, The Wildroot Parables, the month of October will feature some of my thoughts and feelings around ghosts, spirits, and ancestry. The first post was called The Spirits of October, and the whole series is a bit of an informal tie-in to the wonderful Macabre Monday community spearheaded by Jeff Kinnard. If you’re interested in some of the philosophical views that certainly inform my fiction, I invite you to check it out!
What’s Next?
September was so much fun! Ready for more?
I’m pretty thrilled to report that I hit my goal of writing and posting 3-4 pieces of short fiction last month, and I’m excited to try again in October! While I’m not going to limit myself to a particular theme, I’m sure some extra spookiness will find its way into my stories, this season. :)
A Note for Paid/Comp Subs: you get the fun choice of deciding which of the three stories posted in the last month will end up in the Archive at the end of the season, so look out for an email with a poll this week so you can pick your fave! Archived stories are always first in line for inclusion in an eventual print anthology, so I look forward to seeing which story you pick!
As a reminder to all, I will be taking a hiatus from scheduled posts in November (no serials, especially) so that I can prep and plan a new serial for Winter.
I look forward to more fiction fun with you all in October!

How about another spooky discussion question, for fun?
In the comments, tell us: what is your favorite *fictional* ghost story? Could be a movie, show, or book, but it has to include ghostly themes and hauntings.

I love Sixth Sense. I wish I could go back in time to experience the twist like it was the first time. For the same reasons, The Others is another ghost story I really enjoy.
I just started the novel Mexican Gothic, so I expect ghostly events to happen soon.
I argue that you can't go wrong with the OG Legend of Sleepy Hollow. When I first read it in undergrad, I was immediately enchanted by the Northeastern autumn vibes (especially since we have none of that in Miami) and the Headless Horseman. Now it's a nice "traditional" read every time fall rolls around.
