I would very much like to know how this ends. It reminds me (in a more positive way) of Charn in "The Magician's Nephew): a different world of which we're given glimpses but which we don't really know in full. This was fascinating and I want to know more. Who's the Swan? What's the Sleeper supposed to do?
DANG OK. I don't know what to make of this. But this world is EXPANSIVE. By which I mean--you are not "worldbuilding", you are exploring a world you found, complete, waiting for a poet to report back to us what they observed.
I can't wait to see what Part Two holds! Don't make us wait long! We might fall asleep....
This is so atmospheric and beautiful. As someone said below, it truly reads like you're narrating a world you're walking through, not one you're building in the moment. What a fascinating story.
I’m glad I did not rush to get to this, but waited to be able to savor it. What a wonderful and curious world. I could see a whole epic coming out of this. I can’t imagine I will finish part 2 without questions!
Ahem, S.E. you posed a question when you posted this Part One about what previous story was an inspiration for The Sleeper, The Singer... I took a guess in a previous comment and the suspense is killing me. Are you waiting until the second part is posted before revealing the answer? Perhaps to give time for more entries?
Haha, Frank, you're so right! I'm so sorry to make you wait! 😁 I'm going to share a link to that story at the end of Part 2, so all shall be revealed soon! ✨
Love the atmosphere of this little story - especially liked this line... The idea chilled her deeper than the wind could reach. I don't know why, it just struck me.
This is really terrific S.E. And you know how to lead the reader right where they want to be, with just the right questions as yet unanswered, on the edge and wonderfully frustrated! Now I've got to take a shot at the question you posed - "The Right Thing" because there is a mission to complete while proving worthiness and there are unexpected complications requiring off the script solutions.

In short, wow.

Marvellous. A great sense of a discovery while reading, I hope the Sleeper remembers himself or becomes something more, looking forward to part 2!
I loved this. It has a fairy-tale feel but is so lyrical. And yes, OF COURSE we want to know what happens next.
So grey, lonely, and gentle. I love me some atmosphere.
Again, you’re writing has pulled me in! Fascinating!

I want, no NEED more.

Brilliant. Part 2 please.
Loved reading. Longing for part 2 ♥️

What a world you've discovered. First, the Island where the weird stuff happens, and now an island where the sleeper was left alone.
This reminds me of Merlin for some reason. A man who sleeps for ages untold until he's needed.
Now I wonder if this sleeper is more than he seems, just as I wonder what disaster he was supposed to avert.
