Dear Reader…
Welcome back to The Weekly!
For those who are new around here: I am all about communicating with my readers as much as I can, and this little digest is where I make sure we’re all on the same page about what’s going on in Talebones-land!
In today’s issue I’ve got a VERY brief round-up to give you about my recently-published work, along with some stuff coming up, so let’s not delay!
Onward!
Round-Up!
In case you missed it…
The Knocking - in this piece of flash fiction, Ferris Island resident Hank Hollister (first seen in The Orientation) tells us a little piece of his own personal lore. Fact or fiction? With Hank, it’s always tough to tell!
The Third Rabbit - in this piece of short fiction, a stepmother and daughter must face danger together when it lurks outside their cabin one night.
Bonus: the family from this story first appeared in Behind The Door, in which a widowed father is given an impossible choice.
TALESTACK NEWS is a twice-monthly bulletin of Substack fiction news where I collate as many announcements, projects, submissions opportunities, community endeavors, and generally cool things as I can gather. Check out the most recent issue here! (And if you’re a writer on the platform, check out the submission guidelines and email your news to talestack.editor@gmail.com by June 16th to be included in the next issue!)
The second “season” of our fan-favorite supernatural mystery serial, Freelance and Fishmaids, will begin THIS Friday, June 7th! Our new season picks up a few months after the events of the previous season, and freelancer Caroline and her partner Captain Reyville have regained their groove chasing strange phenomena, aided by their friends and allies across the island. But when they are approached by a new acquaintance with an intriguing proposition, they will find their skills, resolve, and even their deepening relationship tested. On Ferris Island, the past and the present often go hand in hand.
If you haven’t read Season One of Freelance and Fishmaids, you can catch up now before the next season begins! START HERE!
Talebones is One Year Old! To celebrate, the following stories have emerged from the Archive and are FREE to read until June 28th:
A Thing Must Be Loved (short story) - in this horror tale, a parking garage attendant goes toe-to-toe with terror in the shadows and assumes an unlikely role in his own story.
Ivy & Ixos (novella) - set during the uncertain days of March 2020, 10-year-old Ivy is sent to live with her estranged father while her aunt, a hospital nurse, is unable to care for her during lockdown. What starts as an adventure turns into a mystery, as at her father’s home in the western Washington forests Ivy finds uncanny quiet, a cabin full of hidden memories, and a family secret too strange to be believed.
Thank you for reading!
Talebones Readers are the best anywhere, and that’s a scientific fact! ;)
Thanks as always for being my dream readership. It is such an honor to be invited into your inboxes, your busy days, your precious attention. I hope you all have a terrific week, and I can’t wait to bring us all back to the island this Friday for the first episode of Freelance and Fishmaids!
All my love, and blessings!
Your grateful storyteller,
I completely missed that The Third Rabbit was a sequel to Behind the Door so I'm glad you pointed it out. This is why I love what you're doing with Ferris Island.
But I can’t read the titles!🧐
